Nowadays, with the development of social productive forces and technology, the communication between countries continues to strengthen. The film industry, as an important part of international trade, not only promotes the growth of GDP, but also shows their cultural soft power to the world. America, as the most developed country in film industry, produces 10% films, but it occupies more than 60% global box office. In 2014, the North American film market reached 10.5 billion dollars, and obtained nearly 20 billion dollars overseas. Huge surplus exists in the film trade. At the same time, the development of film trade in China is not optimistic. In 2014, China imported 80 movies, and these movies gained 13.48 billion yuan. But the oversea income was only 1.87 billion yuan. There was huge film trade deficit. In this case, the paper studied the China’s film trade.Firstly, the paper researches the characteristics of film trade and the industry chain of movies. The characteristics of film trade are as follows: cultural discount, subjected to government control, the imbalance of regional development and externality. The film industry chain mainly contains the traditional film industry chain(including the production, distribution and projection) and the extended movie chain. After analysis, the paper find the film industry chain in China is weak and the revenue of movie is single. After that, the paper analyses the relevant theory, such as the technology gap theory, scale economy theory, national competitive advantage theory and the theory of product life cycle. Then, the paper analyzes the current situation and reasons for China film trade development. The research results show that China film trade deficit is high, and the competitiveness of domestic film is far lower than imported films, After that, the paper, based on the semi annual data from 2002 to 2014, studies the factors of influencing the film trade deficit. The research results show that China’s GDP, the major trading countries’(the United States) GDP, admissions, the number of screens and film trade deficit exist cointegration relations, which China’s GDP, the United States GDP and admissions are positively correlated with film trade deficit; the number of screens and film trade deficit is negatively related to. Moreover, China’s GDP, the United States GDP, admissions, screen number with the film trade deficit are both cause and effect. Finally, according to the existing problems of Chinese film trade, the paper puts forward the corresponding policy recommendations from two aspects, including internal and external movie industry. Among them, the internal measures include: the production companies enhance the degree of concentration, the distribution firms improve marketing level, the industry expand the film industry chain and seize the Internet economy. The outside measures contain abolishing the film censorship system and increasing the government’s industrial policy support.
