Taiwanese films have become an important part of Chinese films, experiencing declineand boom since its birth more then a century ago. With the influence and promotion of the new film movement,Taiwanese films formed its unique cultural temperament and the convey of camera lens gradually. Under the good system of Taiwan government and with the support by a great number of Taiwanese movie critics, Taiwanese films have been constantly improving while accumulating power to confront the age of "Late new movie" and to break the bed spell In 2008,director Wei’s first feature film work "Cape No.7" was released, shocking Taiwan filmdom. The high quality and high box office of the film swept the downturn trend in Taiwan filmdom. Its appearance stimulated the flagging Taiwan film market. Civilian perspective, town scenery, romance and dance which shown in the movie won the native viewers. The film also got enough attention and was recognized in international market. There is no doubt that the release of the epic movie "Warriors of the Rainbow:Seediq Bale" in 2001 caused a sensation in the filmdom all over the world. We can see that these two films have obvious differences in form, content and style. But it is certain that they are both rich in humanity culture and artistic feature and win recognition from audience and film industry. Wei Te-shen has only directed two feature films so far. The movies are both released resoundingly and show a brave span on their topics from romance movie to epic movie. However, they also keep the exploration to localism and modernity. The cultural significance of the movies and the audio-visual exploration have produced huge influence in Taiwan cinema even in Chinese cinema. As we can see, director Wei Te-shen has been trying to deliberate the relationship of humanity and history, humanity and environment, humanity and society in his films. And he also attempts to review local mood, to look for colonial memory and the recognition of national identity. The systematic research of director Wei Te-shen’s works helps us find out ways and strategies in wave of the film globalization and industrialization against Hollywood film invasion,based on localism and modernity.
