This attitude led to the occurrence of the Xi’an Incident, delaying the settlement process of the he Xi’an Incident and increasing the complexity of the aftermath of the areas of Shaanxi and Gansu. Before the Xi’an Incident, Yang has been a cautious approach to the relationship between the national government authorities. After the Red Army entered Shaanxi, Yang has this attitude to persist between the National Government and the Communist Party of China. With the change in the situation at home and abroad, Yang gradually deepen contacts with the Communist Party, and his appeal on stopping the civil war to fight against the Japanese invaders is more intensive. At the same time he secretly expanded powers, which shows low-key tough towards the national government authorities. At the middle and late period of Xi’an Incident, Yang began to walk to the stage from behind the scenes, and its tough attitude manifested more clearly. However, the efforts of Zhang Xueliang, the Communist Party, the National Government and other parties made Chiang Kai-shek out of danger, thus the Xi’an Incident had been settled peacefully. Thus the arrival of the aftermath of Shaanxi and Gansu. Yang’s attitude during this period will be divided into two main phases. After Yang confirmed the detention of the national government and troops westward, Yang gave a strong opposition on the surface. And his attitudes seemed be extremely tough. However, since the Northeast Army discord, For the "Trinity" internal instability, Yang’s attitude has actual begun to soften, extremely pessimistic about the prospects. Under the pressure of the Central Army, he partly compromised. which entered the second phase. During this period, Yang vague attitude towards the national government authorities. One hand he did not refuse the demands of national government authorities directly, on the other hand find some ways to stall for time. But with the failure of the West Army, the Chinese communist party intensified the compromise towards national government, which made Yang more isolated. After the February 2nd incident, the 17th Route Army collapsed, and Yang forced therefore to compromise. Shaanxi and Gansu aftermath basically ended at that time.
