C-E consecutive interpreting requires interpreters to have the ability of understanding the speakers’ meaning correctly and instantly transforming the meaning into English with appropriate vocabulary, proper grammar, and clear logic. In order for the English-speaking audience to understand the speakers’ meaning correctly, while interpreting, the interpreters should establish a sense of discourse by keeping or changing the cohesive devices of the translation to form a text. Based on the cohesion theory of Halliday and Hasan, after introducing some basic definitions related to the research, this thesis first analyzes the similarities and differences of the cohesive devices used both in Chinese and English to prove the necessity of processing the cohesion in English text, and then by comparing the professional interpreters’ NPC and CPPCC press conference translation with the author’s version, this thesis manages to provide a series of interpreting strategies which can be used by interpreting beginners to improve the quality of their translation.
