Since 1960 s,discourse analysis has obtained flourishing development in the linguistic field.Meanwhile,cohesion theory has gained more and more importance in discourse analysis.Nevertheless,the research on cohesion theory in interpreting is far from enough.And in consecutive interpreting,interpreters are supposed to interpret a relatively complete discourse,rather than broken sentences.Therefore,cohesive devices are of great importance to the production of a complete discourse.Based on Halliday & Hasan's cohesion theory,the author chooses one regular press conferences' consecutive interpretation in 2016 as study material,making a comparative analysis among professional interpreter and interpreting learners.By doing so,the author tries to find the different usage of cohesive devices among them.Firstly,the interpreting learners are asked to do interpreting based on the given materials.Then the author transcribes the recordings and organize professional interpreter's output.Secondly,based on the classification of cohesive devices by Halliday & Hasan,the author makes comparisons between these two groups from four aspects,including reference,substitution,ellipsis and conjunction.The author tries to figure out the following questions:1 What kinds of cohesive devices are frequently used in Chinese-English consecutive interpretation of press conference?2 what are the differences among professional interpreters and interpreting learners on the use of cohesive devices?3 What suggestions can we make for press conference interpretation teaching ?The following are the conclusions of the study: firstly,reference and conjunction are the most used cohesive devices.Secondly,after the contrastive study,it's found that these two groups have distinctive differences in using cohesive devices,particularly in the use of frequency and accuracy.Finally,this paper has arrived at some conclusions.Due to the features of diplomatic interpreting,the frequency of using these cohesive devices is different.Thus,different cohesive devices should be adopted based on different materials;the different behaviors of these two groups encourage us to learn more cohesion theory and do more relevant practices.
