In the process of English-Chinese sight interpretation, the most important and difficult part is division and cohesion of long sentences. The selected material of the paper is Interview of Secretary of State Colin Powell by CCTV. The problems of improper division of long sentences are based on words, sense groups and sentences which are treated as the unit of division of long sentences. These problems may cause errors, omissions and disfluency in the process of sight interpretation. The strategy of division of long sentences is to use something like sense group to divide long sentences. The problems of improper cohesion of long sentences are the lack of cohesion of sight interpretation of units and improper semantic integration. The strategies of cohesion of long sentences are to add translation among sight interpretation units and externalization. In the process of illustration, the author hopes that through classifying and analyzing the typical long sentences of the selected material, sight interpreters can understand the application of division and cohesion of long sentences.
