This report takes the book Chinese Thought,Society,and Science by Derk Bodde as the object of study.This is a book of philosophy of science that covers politics,economy,culture,and religion in pre-modern China.In this book,the author describes the advanced science,technology,and system in ancient China,and presents his opinion about the backward situation of pre-modern China.The greatest difficulty in the process of translation is how to understand and translate long English sentences.The difficulty emerges because of the differences between the expressions of English and Chinese.This report summarizes some practical translation techniques based on the methods proposed by some scholars and the translation practice of the author in translating the book Chinese Thought,Society,and Science,such as following the original syntactic order,division,reordering,amplification,omission and multiple uses of these methods.The first chapter of this report is the task description,which introduces the content of the translation and its significance;the second chapter is the introduction of the translation process;the third chapter is the main body of the report,in which the comparison between Chinese and English sentences is macroscopically conducted firstly,and some translation methods are summarized through case analysis;the forth chapter is the conclusion of the report,in which the author talks about some impressive points and expresses some opinions as well.
