Hearing Impairment And Coping Strategies: A Practical Report On The Interpretation Of Special Economic Crops

Listening comprehension is the first step of interpretation. It determines whether an interpreter could successfully grasp the source language and fulfill the job. However, when there are barriers in this part and the interpreter cannot handle them very well in time, he will encounter the listening problems and even influence the quality of interpretation.As a report on Chinese to English consecutive interpreting(C-E CI) with parts of text, this dissertation describes one CI task conducted by the author for the Seminar on Planting Models and Demonstrations of Special Economic Crops for Developing Countries and analyzes the interpretation of the speech of the theme of raspberry and the question of the guests to discuss the listening problems of C-E CI. This report firstly describes the task and processes of this interpretation. Then it summarizes the listening problems arising from linguistic obstacles and extra-linguistic ones and introduces the solutions in the seminar. And in the end, the writer of the report attempts to put forward the coping strategies and solutions to these problems.
