Since the subprime crisis in2008, over20%of the world’s economy growth hasbeen contributed by China’s economy and China has become the second largesteconomy. Under this circumstances, the whole world is paying closer attention toChina’s economy, and the speeches delivered by Chinese economists are in need ofbeing interpreted for foreigners. The author selected the speech “How Can China’s Economy Be ProsperousAgain” delivered by professor Hua Min in Fudan University as her material andcarried out the simulated consecutive interpreting. With clear logic and simplelanguage, the speech illustrates Professor Hua Min’s opinions about how China’seconomy can be prosperous again under the downward pressure. After carefullyanalyzing both the Chinese and English corpus, the author found out her problems andoffered some feasible coping strategies with the purpose of forming operational modeand making her future interpreting work more standard.Apart from the introduction part and the conclusion part, this report consists offour chapters. The first chapter introduces the background information and the basicrequirements for this task. The second chapter elaborates on the process of thissimulated task, including the preparation, the on-site interpreting and thepost-interpreting summary. Chapter Three and Chapter Four are the key parts of thisreport. Chapter Three analyzes the difficulties and problems in the task, which theauthor groups into five categories:(1)problems caused by terminologies;(2)problemscaused by grammatical mistakes;(3)problems caused by long and complicatedsentences;(4)problems caused by improper note-taking;(5)problems caused by poorpsychological quality. Chapter Four reflects on these problems and offers somefeasible strategies:(1)making a terminology glossary;(2)asking for further explanation;(3)developing language proficiency;(4)practicing taking notes;(5)splitting long sentences;(6)training short-term memory;(7)establishing the symbolsystem;(8)setting down the logic relations and key information;(9)making goodpreparations;(10)building up confidence. In the end, the conclusion part makes asummary of this simulated interpreting practice, including the gains, the deficiencies, and the inspiration.
