Purpose Of Interference

This thesis is divided into two parts. The first part is the excerpt from the translation of a YA (Young Adult) novel Slated by female English writer Teri Terry. The book is the debut novel of the author and is the first installment in the Slated trilogy. It has won her several book awards both within Britain and outside. The story is about a teenage girl Kyla who was claimed to be a terrorist and was given a second chance by the government through a special surgery called Slating which would erase all her previous memory. But echoes of the past always whispered in Kyla’s mind. She found that someone was lying, and she tried to dig out the truth and her previous identity. The excerpt from Prologue to Chapter Fourteen recounts Kyla’s attempt to adapt into the new environment and her new findings. The second part of the thesis is the afterthoughts of the translation process framed in accordance with the skopostheorie. The thesis tends to discuss how the translation strategies are affected by various functions of the source text.
