In recent years, as China’s tourism develops, a large number of foreign touristsare interested in China’s beautiful scenery, long history and unique culture. Tourismtext translation is crucial for China to boost its economy and strengthen itscommunication with people all around the world.Skopostheorie was put forward in the1970s. Being function-oriented, it focuseson the purpose of the translation and the target readers’ needs. In light ofSkopostheorie, the translation strategies which are chosen and the relation betweensource text and target text will be determined by the purpose of the translation. It is apowerful theory to provide instruction for tourism text translation.Taking Chinese-English translation of Scenic Spots of Qinhuangdao as case study,this research aims to explore the application of Skopostheorie to tourism texttranslation. The translation of tourism text aims to convey the spot messages, andshow long history and unique culture to achieve its informative purpose, and interactwith foreigners to achieve its communicative purpose. In order to realize the purposeof translation, the research proposes some translation strategies, such as addition,deletion, paraphrasing, rewriting for tourism text translation. This thesis also analysesthe main problems and the causes behind these problems in the translation.
