The Modernization And Localization Of Taiwan Opera Since The 1980s

The year of 1979 is an extraordinary year in the contemporary history of traditional drama in Taiwan. During this year, Mrs. Xiaozhuang Guo, who is the (?)amous actor in the military troupe before, established an unprecedented group named "Ya Yin Xiao Ji" which s a pioneer troupe in the field of traditional opera for The little theatre in Taiwan. Since then, at some special region and under specific humanity environment, based on the historic mission, the requirement of the era, the opening-up policy of the government and the vision of iterati, the form of the opera become more avant-garde and novel. Leading by Beijing Opera, all kinds of forms of opera have changed significantly and intrinsically. In shis paper, taking the Mrs. Xiaozhuang Guo and her group "Ya Yin Xiao Ji", as well as Mr Xingguo Wu and his group "contemporary legend", also the Mr Haimin Wei and his group "Guo Guang troupe" and so on as main examples of the different stages of the modernization of traditional opera in Taiwan, the following three issues are considered. Firstly, the liscussion is made on the emergence of the [ntertextuality effect between the modern western dramas and the traditional oriental dramas on the reformation of the opera in Taiwan since the 80’s of the ast century. Secondly, We analyzed the characteristic of the opera in Taiwan which shows a feature of "Integrity art" from the perspective of three creation steps or evels,namely the text creation as the first step, the actor creation and the confirmation for the director system as the second step, the creation during the showtime as the third step. Finally, under the new circumstance of dramas i.e. the rejuvenation of pace of Iramas, the commercialized market and cross-cultural vocabulary, the contradiction in the main body of the Taiwan drama have been discussed especially during recent years when the Indigenization is carrying out. Whether accepting western new idea or sticking to :raditional rules for the field in Taiwan dramas still leave a unsolved question now.
