Chang Zhou School of study in the middle Qin dynasty, represented by Zhuang Cun-yu, Zhuang Shu-Zu, Liu Feng-lu, and Song Xiang-feng, upheld the dominant status of Chun Qiu Gong Yang Zhuan (the record of Spring and Autumn by Gong Yang Gao) in the Confucius Doctrines, looking for the intricate reason illustrated in the doctrine and witnessing a transform from blending the academic practice of Han and Song dynasties to solely Han dynasty approach. Zhuang Cun-yu advocated a holistic perspective of all the five doctrines. Zhuang Shu-zu emerged himself in the probe into the academic achievements of scholars in Han dynasty. Liu Fen-lu committed himself with the restoration of He Xiu’s Gong Yang study and the establishment of a comprehensive school of the study of Gong Yan’ Record. Song Xiang-feng concentrated on ancient doctrines and historical research which highlighted the intricate meaning of the Gong Yang School. With them, the Chang Zhou School was eventually established. Chang Zhou School interacted with the study of academic tradition of Han dynasty in the Qing era:the former drew on the practice and content of the latter while the latter influenced by the former in the pursuing of the intricate meaning of ancient doctrines. Chang Zhou School is thought to mark the beginning of the thriving of the Old version of the doctrines with the distinction between the Old and New Versions of the ancient doctrines becoming wider. But from the perspective of its contents and methodology, Chang Zhou School was not regarded as mainstay. Its academic status and value lies in its collection and research of the New Version of Confucius doctrines and thus formed the foundation of study of them. And it is especially valuable in the utilitarian trend among academic. Chang Zhou School enriched and transcended the study of the academic traditions of Han dynasty.
