| This paper is a research on “Maitreya sutra parinama†iconography and sculpture artof Dunhuang in China’s Tang Dynasty, and the analysis is based on Alan P. Merriam’sthree-dimensional system: Conceptualization→Behavior→Music, namely,Conceptualization leads to Behavior, and Behavior leads to artistic results. This researchconcluded as below several characteristics of the philosophy behind the “Maitreya sutraparinama†iconography and sculpture art by discussing the mindset of SHIYU andWANGSHENG, which refers to the binary state of material life and spiritual pursuit, aswell as the reasons of this binary mindset from both social and religious aspects. Thispaper argues that the philosophy of art is in the most fundamental sense to explore asubject of the relationship between art and reality. Thus, philosophical questions like theTang Dynasty Dunhuang “Maitreya sutra parinamaâ€art, but also need to explore therelationship between the Tang Dynasty statues and social life; in addition, by alteringlike Maitreya is religious art, thus also discuss relations with the religious statues.Therefore, by the foregoing,First and foremost,“Maitreya sutra parinama†iconographyand sculpture art of Dunhuang in Tang Dynasty is representative art instead ofreproduction. Secondly, this art is a comprehensive presentation of the meanings withininstead of single representation; Additionally, it combines both image thinking and“Dharma†thinking, especially, the latter one is distinctive. meanwhile, the beauty ofform and symbolization are also significant characteristics of “Maitreya sutra parinamaâ€iconography and sculpture art. |
