A Study On The New Words And Phrases Of "X - Men"

In this paper, using the methods of statistics and comparative analysis, it makes research on the four types of new words "X man", "X woman" and "X brother", "X sister" from the perspective of coined words, the causes, creation rules and methods of these new created words are explored and the development trends of these new words is forecasted.This paper is divided into four chapters:the first and second chapter focus on expounding the word creation rules and methods of "X man", "X woman" and "X brother", "X sister", and then analyze the differences and relations of the two pairs of words in the word creation rules and methods; The third and fourth chapter show that the causes of this kind of words and predict the development trend of them.The first chapter focuses on the dictionary definitions and predecessors’ research. It illustrates that the "man" and "woman" in "X man", "X woman" is a return of noun usage in the history. The development and changes of word meaning of "brother", "sister" in "X brother", "X sister" is a continuous generalization process of lexical meaning. And on this basis, it explores the impact of "man", "woman" and "brother", "sister" on "X man", "X woman" and "X brother", "X sister" this kind of words.The second chapter makes analysis and comparison of creating words from the three perspectives such as syllables features, grammatical properties and word creation methods of "X" to explore the similarities and differences of word creation rules of "X man", "X woman" and "X brother", "X sister". Based on the corpus statistics analysis, the author finds that the double syllable "X" has the dominant role in "X man", "X woman" and "X brother", "X sister". "X" is primarily a word with nominal composition or verbal composition. On the word creation methods, the creation methods "X" uses in "X man", "X woman" and "X brother", "X sister" are essentially the same which are mainly illustrated words creation, borrowed words creation, integrated words creation. But after comparison, the uses of word creation methods in "X man", "X woman" are balanced while the word creation methods of "X brother", "X sister" are concentrated on the creation method of illustrated events.The third chapter discusses the causes of "X man", "X woman" and "X brother", "X sister" this kind of words from three aspects:the social cultural factors, psychological factors of users or creators and internal factors of language, and explores how these three factors to form resultant force to promote the development of "X man", "X woman" and "X brother", "X sister" these new words.The fourth chapter forecasts the development of "X man", "X woman" and "X brother", "X sister" the four types of words and analyzes that these four types of words will present the tendency of unbalanced development and quasi-affix trend.
