The majority of educated youth local novels are created by educated urban youth who has gone to live and work in the countryside. Because of their unique life and emotional experience, they are easier to perceive two completely different cultures formed in urban and rural region. As this kind of novel has experienced the stages of scar literature, reflection literature, and reform literature, its writers begin to return to literature itself, looking back the years in countryside they’ve experienced with the purpose of "finding their root". What’s more, they spare no effort to discover the spiritual character of rural culture, in order to construct the cultural spirit of China. Nevertheless, their behavior of reflecting the traditional and folk culture presents a homogeneous state with new culture movement in spiritual themes. They not only inherit and develop the theme of enlightenment in "May Fourth" movement, but also accept the poetic style of local fiction created in that time. However, in the new historical context, there appear changes in their style. As for the point of "root-seeking", these educated youth writers’changes are based on inheriting the theme and poetic style of local novel in "May Fourth" movement. These changes are not only determined by historical conditions, but also reflection of country, nation, culture and history by educated youth writers.Based on close reading and deep analysis on the text of educated youth local novels in the view of "root—seeking" with the method of typological comparative analysis, the paper puts it in the history of Chinese modern literature, discussing the inheritance and change of this kind of novel in theme and poetic style compared with Chinese local novels created in 1920s and 1930s. Thus its academic value and academic significance can be pinpointed in history of Chinese modern literature.The first chapter starts from the historical background for the rise of "root-searching literature" and the identity of its writers, discussing the origin for the rise of "root—seeking" local novels written by educated youth. Meanwhile, "root-searching literature" and educated youth local novel are connected, summing up the spiritual connotation of educated youth local novel from the point of writers unique creative stance.The second chapter is based on the text of educated youth local novel, carefully summarizing the countryside society constructed by educated youth writers. Moreover, it compares and analyzes the inheritance of thought and aesthetic style of this kind of novels from that of local novels created in 1920s and 1930s in the view of local enlightenment. Then the relation between "root—seeking local novels" and local novels in 1920s and 1930s can be constructed through comparative analysis. At the same time, it can help us explore the influence and value in modern countryside society produced by the theme of enlightenment and discover the aesthetic style and artistic technique inherited by "root—seeking local novels".The third chapter mainly focuses on new substances in the course of comparison between educated youth local novels from the perspective of "root—seeking" and local novels created in 1920s and 1930s. Rooted in "local spiritual theme", "local narrative perspective" and "aesthetic style and artistic technique,it systematically presents the thought of modern urban and rural civilization by local novels, discussing the change of root—seeking educated youth’s view on the nation and cultural reflection. Moreover, it’s used to present root—seeking local novel’s unique charm and academic value in Chinese modern history.In conclusion, the paper objectively evaluates and summarizes the advantages and disadvantages of educated youth local novels from the perspective of "root—seeking" in view of literary history.
