The National Government Should Study The People 's Anti - Japanese Public Opinion After The September 18th Incident

After the September 18th Incident, pushed by the nationalism, the public opinion of Anti-Japanese, which claimed that Nanjing National Government should show its tough attitude to the Japanese government, has broke out. This claim was against the policy of Nanjing National Government to the Japanese government, which became the additional "domestic trouble" of the Nanjing government, besides under the stress of the Japanese Army.Nanjing government couldn’t follow the radical appeal of anti-Japanese from the public of China because of its policy of staying calm and forbearance; but also Nanjing government had to show some gentle feedback to the appeal of the public in order to reach a basic consensus in the issue of anti-Japanese, based on the need of uniting the public sincerely and getting together to save the nation. Based on these facts, it was necessary for Nanjing National Government to deal with the public opinion of anti-Japanese. During the process, the government can carry out its willing, and deliver its aspiration to anti-Japanese and seek for the unification in different social classes. So at first, this thesis reviewed and summarized the basic development of the public opinion of anti-Japanese after the September 18th Incident, and then analysed the real attitude of the government by interpreting the internal conversations between the governments’ senior officials during the ’September 18th Incident, and at last analysed and concluded the pubic policies which made by Nanjing National Government to deal with the public opinion. In short, the policy of Nanjing National Government to answer the public opinion is, based on the facts of invasion by the Japanese and its specialized policy contre the Japanese, to show its position and attitude, and express itself that the government not only has its baseline, but also has its expectation and preparation. And on the one hand, Nanjing National Government tried to relax the radical appeal of anti-Japanese; on the other hand, tried to obtain the understanding, the sympathy and the support of the public opinion, and then unite the public’s sentiment of anti-Japanese and lead this sentiment to contre the invasion from the external.
