The modern China had domestic troubles and foreign invasions. The Chinese scholars, in face of the western thoughts, had been aware that China had been changed from a civilized country into a savage one and gradually became the marginal figure of the whole world. They had to think about where China would go. In this transitional era, Liang Qichao tried to find a way between Politics and Literature. "The strong shoulders bear the moral and the highly skilled write good articles". He, who learned and knew well about both Chinese literature and western thoughts, integrated politics and literature into this changing era. This made the national literature be created. He was capricious and accepted new thoughts initiatively and didn’t hesitate to challenge himself. In his whole life, Liang Qichao cared about the people with advanced thoughts and wrote articles to awaken the Chinese people. This paper is mainly researching Liang Qichao’s view on Chinese literature and it is divided into four parts. The first part discusses the basic connotation of Liang Qichao’s view on Chinese literature. From the old learning to Chinese traditional literature, Liang Qichao established the basic principles of national literature, namely national literature has bearings. By comparing national literature and western thoughts, Liang Qichao made national literature the center, namely anyone who reverses the current political situation, must rely on national literature. At the same time, Liang Qichao also displayed the openness and inclusiveness of national literature. The second part talks about the development of Liang Qichao’s national literature. Divide his national literature into three parts, national literature’s accumulation period, the new national literature’s construction period, senior development period of national literature. This shows Liang Qichao’s understanding of national literature. The third part reveals Liang Qichao’s purpose of advocating national literature and basic ways to govern the country. His goal is to make "new national literature", and shapes modern people who follow trend. His basic way to govern national literature is to do research on literature with scientific methods and on virtue by introspection and practice. The fourth part is about the Liang Qichao’s revelation and reference on "craze for Chinese Classics". He provides the ideological resources by the following three aspects, namely the physical and mental harmony, the tension of tradition and modern; the relation between China and the world. In conclusion, Liang’s view of Chinese national studies is a complete and open-minded ideological system. It involves the attitudes we treat our traditional civilization and how we should deal with the communications between Chinese and West cultures. It also refers to some basic issues on how to study and how to behave as a human being. Furthermore, Liang Qichao provides us with encyclopedic knowledge as thought resources which we can use commonly.
