In recent years, with the change of social environment and family structure, the physical and psychological health of infants and children has aroused concern of the whole society. According to the latest research, the incident of children mental illness like autism is higher than that of malignant tumors and HIV. Emotion is the important representation of human mental activity and function, especially for infants and children who still in the prelinguistic period. Emotion can express their physical condition, physiological requirements and communication. It means significance of infant emotional interaction with outside world in early interpersonal social development. Therefore, the analysis and management of infant emotion has become an important research area. In developed countries, infant emotional management has been applied to nursery, kindergarten and related infants project.Research work of this article is part of the cooperative project "Affective Computing, Emotion Management and Application" between Fudan University, China and Columbia University, USA. Based on the above project, this thesis focused on the research of infant’s emotional characteristics and emotional management. And it targets in new emotional management method in infants nurseries and kindergartens in our country. This thesis first describes the emotion management theory and emotional characteristics of infants and young children. It also offers a questionnaire designed for 38 kinds of situations often encountered in the daily life of the infant. Based on the survey data, it analyzes nine common infant emotional states and their influential mechanism. In addition, it summarizes infant emotional expression and their characteristics, builds up infant emotional behavioral model and introduces the detection and analysis of emotional information based on observations. Furthermore, using PMP theory and by case study, it summarizes infant emotional management organization system, operating mechanism and key process design. It also put forward related suggestions on infant emotional management.This thesis is divided into six chapters, the first chapter lays out research background, research content and Research Methods; the second one introduces the theory of emotional management, emotional characteristics of infants and young children and on-site observation information technology details; chapter three uses a questionnaire based on infant’s emotional characteristics and emotional expression, carrying out a data research, building up model and relating analysis; chapter four summarizes the infant emotional management methods; followed by chapter five which consists of case studies and applied research; final chapter gives conclusion and future outlook. The research of this article has reference value of management and related services in nurseries and kindergartens projects.
