Dunhuang art are rich and colorful, extensive and profound, spanning a period of 1,000 years. The period of 160 years between Northern Liang to Northern Zhou Dynasty, is regarded as the early stage of Dunhuang art. This paper selected four Dunhuang murals (Cave#285 from Western Wei Dynasty: 500 robbers became Buddha; the monk committed suicide for Buddhist precepts; Cave#290 & Cave#296 from Northern Zhou Dynasty:the story of the Buddha biography; Futian buddhist sutras) for the investigation and analysis of their aesthetic value in aspects of artistic conception, composition, style, and color.
