The English - Chinese Translation Practice Report

As one of translation of academic works, the translation of law works has been becoming a significant subject to study. This paper is a translation report whose text is selected from the first two parts of the fourth chapter in Internet Law, which was written by a famous professor- Chris Reed. As a law work, the text is extremely objective and precise in language style. In the course of translation, two main problems are the translation of adverbials and the translation of appositive clauses. To translate the adverbials, this paper has concluded and integrated the adverbials in the text according to the classifications by a British grammarian- Randolph Quirk, etc, and has classified the adverbials into adjuncts, subjuncts and disjuncts and what’s more, further specific classifications of the tree types of adverbials are covered meanwhile. In addition, with the guidance of skopos theory, the respective translation strategies have been deeply analyzed and discussed, thus, the problems have been solved accordingly. As for the appositive clauses, there exist lots of translation difficulties. Therefore, this paper has summarized up three strategies to translate them through a thorough study, including the preposing of the appositive clauses and amplification of words, the conversion of the antecedents and the omission of the antecedents. In brief, this paper not only provides some translation strategies to the law works’ translation, but has a great importance for the domestic people studying the internet law.
