Oroqen、Ewenki and Daur people are 3 ethnics with less population in Northeast China who mainly live in Hulunbeir, the eastern part of Inner Mongolia and part of Heilongjiang Province, such as A-Rong Banner and Morin Dawa Daur Autonomous Banner, etc. The languages of the 3 minorities belong to the Altaic Family. Oroqe、Ewenki languages are Manchu-Tungusic Language Group while Daur language is Mongolian language Group.Although they belong to different language groups, the interlacing culture、history and the similar living places made them have very close relationships.Oroqen、Ewenki and Daur people have abundant folk narrative literature and "Mergen beats Manggai" is a typical story style. The "Manggai" is a giant monster, who has long hairs covering the whole body, huge eyes shining blue light, 1、3、9、12 or even 100 heads. They eat meat, drink humans’ blood, rob women and occupy the hunting ground. Scholars once focused on the styles of the story, the Mergen and horse images to study. About Manggai, they paid more attention to Mongolian Epic and tried to find out the origins. Just on this case, this essay takes the Oroqen、Ewenki and Daur people’s abundant folk narrative literature as texts and do some research on the Manggai image by the literature research method and comparative method. Also, the minority literature、folk literature and structural anthropology theory will be helpful for this paper.Chapter 1 will review the relation of the 3 minorities’ history and culture, then explain the reasons why the paper takes them as a whole to study. On this basis, this essay will analyze the Manggai Story so as to study the image. Chapter 2 will concentrate on the Manggai image itself, from etymology to classification, then tell the differences among the 3 minorities. Chapter 3 will study the function of the Manggai image in the context, and its’ motif、social function and the aesthetic significance, which will reflect the Oroqen、Ewenki and Daur people’s religious belief、 national psychology and culture.
