The Uyghur people are important components of the ethnic groups in Xinjiang,China. The distinct geographical and historical features of the region have endowedthe folk culture of the Uyghur people with distinctive traits in custom, diet, lodgingand household life. With the opening-up of Xinjiang toward the world, the publicityand the publicity-oriented C/E translation of the diverse cultures in Xinjiang havegained increasing attention as they serve as a bridge to publicize the local cultures andintroduce Xinjiang to the world.The translation practice report is on the E/C translation of Introduction to theFolk Culture of the Uyghur People. Some translation strategies are adopted to solveproblems in correspondence with the cultural information, features ofparataxis-prominent Chinese text and the writing styles of the original text.The report consists of four parts. Chapter One is a description of the translationtask in terms of its background, situation of C/E translation and significance.Chapter Two is an introduction to the translation procedures and relevant methodsapplied in the translation, such as domestication and foreignization. Chapter Three,the essential part of the report is a case study that deals with instances of problems intranslation guided by specific methods. In Chapter Four, the conclusion, reflections onthe translation practice are summarized.
