The purpose of the study is to make an attempt to restore the interaction between man and the land nearby the Daling River Basin,demonstrate the continuity and diversity of the Daling River Basin in the progress of its development at different periods of time,as well as explore the features and regularity of regional development at farming-grazing transitional zone in Eastern China by means of researching the factors such as the climate change, transition of the route, regional planning changes,economic development,population distribution,and the expansion of traffic around the Daling River Basin ranging from the tenth century to the seventeenth century. There are four chapters except the introduction.In the introduction,the paper arranged all sorts of reference material concerning the cause of the topic-selecting,research objectives,research scope and the Daling River home and abroad while elaborating the research significance and breakthrough. Then the idea of writing and the specific research method turned up at the end of the part.In chapter one,we summarized the natural geography and climate conditions concisely about the Daling River and expounded the natural features of the farming-grazing transitional zone around the Daling River.From the perspective of cultural history,the Daling River was divided into several parts,which was demonstrated meticulously in the paper. Meanwhile, we defined that the upstream of the Daling River as the agricultural region with the archaeological and relevant historical data. Based on the historical documents, the Daling River Basin,the origin of Chinese civilization in the early days as agricultural region,had its own unique features because of being located in border areas.After the third century,the Daling River was divided into two parts with the moving south of the nomads. Eventually, summarized the interaction between man and the land in the early days around the Daling River,which paved the way to demonstrate the changes happened around the Daling River Basin from the tenth century to seventeenth century.The core part of the paper contains chapter two,three and four,which in detail described the progress of the Daling River in different times,including the regional planning changes,economic development as well as traffic changes caused by climate changes, the transition of the route and the war according to the features of the Daling River in different historical periods. The surroundings of Liao Dynasty had changed since the Treaty between the North Song Dynasty and the Liao Dynasty. The Daling River Basin was programmed as the core area and Dading Prefecture was developed into being the capital of the Liao Dynasty. In the Jin Dynasty, the status of the Daling River Basin had declined due to some reasons. Even though the economics recovered in some ways by the time of Yuan Dynasty,the scale and the quantity was less than before on account of the war. The Daling River Basin where set up a military prefecture called Daning was used as a barrier against the Mongolian,which was developed into the military cultivation eventually in the Ming Dynasty. And the administration around Jinzhou had been done in the late Ming and early Qing Dynasty.At the end of the paper, the main content demonstrated previously was summed up and it would be significant for us to deduce the typical case of the Daling River into the study of the interaction between man and the land at farming-grazing transitional zone historically in Eastern China.
