In this translation practice, the author selects Education and the Social Order of Bertrand Russell as the translation text. And the author writes four parts in the translation practice report: the translation task description, the translation process description, analysis on the translation cases and the summary. In the process of translation, the author discovered that Russell is proficient in the solid foundation of basic language skills. It first embodies in the use of the parentheses, and the separations in the sentences are hard to translate, in the meanwhile, it is worth researching. It is followed by the use of the double negation, which fully reflects the logic thinking of Russell. As a kind of rhetoric, it is difficult to understand as well as translate. Then it comes to the use of modal verbs. The author uses modal verbs to express his emotion attitude, so the translation should be according to the context and the author’s emotion attitude. And its translation can give full expression to the translation level and subjective initiative of the translator, meanwhile, it is also a big problem for the translator. Based on the above analysis, the author analyses the translation of parentheses, the double negation as well as the modal verbs in the third part. Through this translation practice, the author hopes not only to think more about the translation and improve the skills, but also to provide references for the follow-up study of Russell’s educational ideas.
