This article is a study regarding modern Chinese semantic categories, although there exist some previous discussions about the exemplified categories, a larger theoretical framework isn’t included. Thus they lack of explanatory and integrity. This paper attempts to create a relatively extensive exemplified category system, on which basis, we will have a further study of exemplified category from the semantic features, syntactic structures and pragmatic features. There are two parts in the paper: marked exemplification and unmarked exemplification. For marked exemplification, we will be mainly discussing the exemplifying words, ones that are with respect to exemplification as the main function, therefore, we define these words as the Typical Marked Exemplifying Words. They are including the conjunctions exemplifying words and the auxiliary exemplifying words. The other part is the Atypical Marked Exemplifying Words, including the modal particles which show the characteristic of exemplification, “X Shuo”. For unmarked exemplification, we focus on two types: one is explanation exemplification. It resort to example as an explanation. The other type is dialogue exemplification. That will make communication more convenient and efficient.
