For a long time, scholars from both home and abroad have found a lot of new and practical ways of translating by combining linguistic theories and translation skills. The application of the theory of cohesion in translation has also yielded abundant fruits. Many linguists attach great importance to the application of the theory of cohesion in translation; however, limited by their academic fields and lack of interpretive practice, few of them have interpreting experience. Therefore, they have done relatively little research in interpreting. This thesis is a report based on a simulated Chinese-English SI practice which was done by applying the theory of cohesion. Mr. Wang Yi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, delivered a speech at the 69 th General Assembly. His speech is chosen as the text to practice simultaneous interpreting. The author of this thesis introduces the practice in two aspects: preparation before interpreting and description of the task. After summarizing the self-assessment report and the feedback from the audience, the author of the thesis applies cohesive devices in analyzing the two texts: the interpreted version by the author of the thesis and the interpreted version by Mr. Wang Yi’s interpreter. By combining the theory with practice, the author of the thesis hopes that, under the guidance of the theory of cohesion, a better way of reducing the memorizing pressure can be found so that the quality of the interpretation can be upgraded.
