A Study On The Translation Of Cultural Loaded Words In Traditional Chinese Opera

Comparing with the rapid development of both economy and culture in our country, the spread and communication of drama in the world has become increasingly frequent. The translation of drama script is being paid increasing attention by the academia. The culture-loaded word existing in drama script cultural has its own peculiar characteristic referring to national culture which makes it difficult to translate the drama.What’s more, the fact that it is not easy to find appropriate English language to replace the culture-loaded word in drama translation has become a problem.The Romance of the Western Bower is the peak in the history of Chinese drama and it attracts a large number of domestic and foreign researchers. The Romance of the Western Bower also gets the favour of scholar translators around the word and it exists 9 main different versions of translation. The translation of The Romance of the Western Bower by Xu Yuanchong is acclaimed for the translation demonstrates all the beauty of the language in the original work. For this reason, I select the translation of The Romance of the Western Bower by Xu Yuanchong as the research sample in my essay and I research the translation methods of culture-loaded word by Xu Yuanchong.The essay mainly adopt document research method, conclude and summary the translation method of culture loaded word through data collection,sorting and research on the translation of The Romance of the Western Bower.The essay is divided in four parts. The first part elaborates on the selection of the topic and the current situation of translation methods of culture loaded words at home and abroad and studying the methods of translation of culture loaded word in The Romance of the Western Bower.This part introduces the research directions and the whole structure of the article. The second part gives definition of the culture-loaded word and introduces the characteristics and classification of the culture loaded word. This part also analyzes the difficulties in translating theculture loaded word. The third part introduces the translation principles of Xu Yuanchong and divides the 306 culture loaded words into five categories: including language culture loaded words, loaded words concerning social culture, loaded words concerning religious culture,loaded words concerning material culture and loaded words concerning ecological culture. This article analyzes different features of different culture-loaded words and the special translation methods used by Xu Yuanchong. This part summarizes the methods of all kinds of the translation of culture-loaded word by comparative study in the different translation methods used by Xu Yuanchong. The fourth part summarizes this article and shows the discovery and insufficiency.
