Traditional Opera is the treasure of the Chinese civilization with profound and lasting influence on the cognition of mass culture for both china and abroad. The rapid development of new media had been showing in various aspects and has a significant impact on the on-going theoretical exploration and practice for the routes and methods of transformation of traditional opera in the context of such development. This thesis analyzes the Chinese traditional opera media forms in two aspects:Theoretically, the thesis mainly focusses on the external media forms like the opera stage, the body performance, audience, and Internal media forms like sound and picture. On the basis of this division, the thesis analyzed and summarized the evolution process of opera medium one by one.Practically, the thesis mainly focusses on communication transmission mode of Chinese opera in the new environment. The so called cultural diffusion on Chinese opera, though some are based on the stage performances, playing the role of entertaining and educating, is not the only choice but a multiple interpreting on culture which include visual effects, like: stage, performances and various requirements for spreading. That is the objective appearance of Chinese opera diffusion. And opera painting is a large branch on opera diffusion.Opera painting is a significant product of opera information transformation, which turns dynamic information into the static one, and via information management,be the fabulous picture eventually.Opera painting also follows the rules of “dynamic condition equals to static condition”. Then, it became a special painting type with stage-basing,performance-surpassing, mentality-radiating and multiple-interpreting.Jean Branson, French visual arts artist, raised “decisive moment” theory, that is:Things in the world anytime, anywhere is in constant motion, they will occur between the various separation and combination. Also, the famous theory of the master of media communication, Marshall Mcluhan, illustrate the “information is the extension of men” in a macroscopic way. Chinese traditional painting has a remote history than these famous theories, and it is the oriental predecessor of this kind of contemporaryart theory. How to realize visual transformation rightly and effectively? Chinese philosophy and Buddhism only provided the purely personal, psychological, and penetrant principles with vague results and with no specific methodology or practical rules. The ways of visual transformation and the value interpretation of visual transformation is still an on-going subject which is also a puzzle in the academic scholarship. This puzzlement, in the new media era, became increasingly time-pressing,therefore, it is important to find a solution to remove the barrier in the Chinese-opera-culture-diffusion and to satisfy the need of “to understand Chinese culture” for the rest of the word.Based on the above, this thesis set the the 13 famous actors in Tung Chih and Kuang Hsu in Qing dynasty as an example for further illustration. Based on part of contemporary communication theory, new media technology had been used to design“character clothing” and “partial movement”. As a “information guardian” of opera-culture, these basic methods are experimental, far form mature. What I am trying is to find a balance between traditional opera painting and new media painting in various information mechanism and an effective method for traditional opera information communication. With the development of technology, the appearance of new media facing both opportunities and challenges. Focusing on the impact of new media to opera diffusion, this thesis puts communication theory into exploration of opera-diffusion.
