Foreign assistance has long been a tool for the United States to protect itsnational interests and realize its regional and global strategic goal. Since the SecondWorld War ended, the United States has been the largest country to give out assistance.Pakistan, due to its outstanding geopolitical condition, has great influence on theSouth Asia region and sometimes even the world situation. The United States beganassisting Pakistan according to its global strategy after Pakistan established. However, the assistance to Pakistan sometimes rose to a very high level while sometimesreduced to a very low level. Sometimes the United States even suspended allassistance. After the9/11accident occurred, the United States recognized Pakistan asan indispensable partner in its war on terrorism, thus restarting the assistance toPakistan in huge amount. President Obama believed assistance given to Pakistan byits predecessor didn’t meet the end and then readjusted the U.S. assistance to Pakistan. No matter how the assistance to Pakistan changed, it all suits the adjustments of theU.S. global and regional strategic and national interests. Fundamentally, foreignassistance is merely a tool for the United States to safeguard its national interests andrealize its strategic goal. Assistance to Pakistan, to some extent, helps the UnitesStates enlarge its influence in specific region and implement its foreign strategy, however imposes influence on Pakistan at the same time.
