The Effect Of Providing For The Aged On Self - Rated Health And Subjective Well - Being Of Chinese Elderly

At present, the social economy of china is not rich enough, we have ushered in the wave of aging population, facing the enormous population pressure, we must establish efficient, sustainable elderly security system. We treat the living arrangement and economic source as the key dimensions of defining our elderly pension mode, and use the research methods of economics, selecting the data from the2011China health and retirement longitudinal study (CHARLS).We try to empirical analysis how the different endowment means affect on the health of the Chinese elderly and whether there is gender differences, urban and rural difference and ages difference.Research results show that, in the current Chinese society, the endowment means not only affect by the elderly living arrangements, but also affected by the economic sources.From the general point of view, the elderly which mainly rely on government subsidy has relatively poor self-rated health and happiness; the elderly who are independent in economy of has better self-rated health and who were mainly supported by the family has stronger happiness. Shared the family living arrangement of the elderly, both the self-rated health and subjective well-being was relatively poor. Besides though endowment means affect the self-rated health and subjective well-being of the elderly, there still exist gender differences, urban and rural difference and age difference. Only by living with their spouse can make male feel healthier and happier. On the contrary, female who lives alone has best self-rated health and well-being. For the rural elderly people, living arrangements and economic sources obviously affect on their self-rated health, but they barely affect on the elderly people living in the city. Source of income and living arrangements significantly affected the elderly, but no significant effect on the non-elderly. These empirical results provide enlightenment for the individual, society and the government in the way of improving elderly welfare. From the government, at this stage, should focus on increasing public financial support for health care, a reasonable expansion of health insurance coverage. Especially for those low-income elderly, the government must enlarge the government subsidy, significantly raise the level of social welfare. Improve old people’s retirement income, keep pace with the social average wage growth, so that the elderly has more independent economic sources. Perfect community service for the elderly living alone or with your spouse, meet only live in the daily life of the elderly service demand, promote the elderly have endowment separate living and children. We should complete community endowment service to meet the need of the elderly’ daily life. It is also encouraged the elderly live apart from their children.
