As one of the most important research topics, Japanese social ethos received high attention in Chinese and Japanese academic field. After World War II, Japanese ethos stepped through stages of peaceful democratism, economism, chauvinism and so on. As dramatic shifts of international and internal condition after Cold War, another trend of social ethos called Neo-nationalism appeared, which stands for maintaining Japanese traditions and values. It has evolved from an ethos the flows from the top to the bottom into the one with adverse direction, which has a big influence on Japanese self-recognition and policies towards China. This article will chooses historical and territorial disputes between Japan and China as cases to analyze the background, characteristic and forms of Japanese Neo-nationalism, and its impact on Sino-Japanese relation.
