In this prevalence era of sea power, it is extremely important for countries of theworld to have the ability to control vital sea lanes, especially for the littoral countries. Itwill directly affect the power scope of telescopic powers, this also the only way to theworld’s great power. Historical experience has shown that a world power is necessarilymarine power, and ocean power must have a strong deterrent and actual combat force,maritime military force deterrence function becomes more important especially inpeacetime. The Indian Ocean and the Pacific region distribute many important sea lanesof the world densely and contain a plenty of natural resources, they has been the focusof the competition among great powers.As the only superpower after the end of the cold war and the country of the world’smost powerful naval power, with the quickening pace of expansion and the influence ofsea power theory, the United States set up overseas military bases around the world toestablish and maintain its hegemony. Russia has experienced a huge trauma of thecollapse of the Soviet Union, but under the guidance of the mentality of cold war,Russia and the United States formed sharp opposition in the global and regional affairs,for Russia, it is very important to maintain and adjust the structure of the military base,because it is about its strength of extension and strategic frontier of confrontation withthe United States. India, as an emerging economy with great developing potential in thecurrent international community, always regard "seeking hegemony in South Asia,controlling of the Indian Ocean, and to be a world-class power" as a long-term pursuitof national strategic goal.This article based on the policy of “Return to Asia” and the current rising status ofthe Indo-Pacific region’s geopolitical strategy, focusing on analysis of three mainindo-pacific region’s countries—the United States, Russia and India’s overseas military projecting capability. In this paper, the main body includes three parts: the firstpart mainly introduces the geographical environment in the two ocean areas, theselection of typical countries and the angles of the full text analysis; the second partparticularly analyses three main powers’ overseas projecting capabilities from theangles of ensuring the smooth of sea lanes, implementing strategic deterrence andwinning the war; the third part of the article will give a summary to the three mainpowers’ overseas military projecting capability.
