Adjustments and changes of social structure and interests’ pattern along with economic and social development and transformation, and diversified and varied tendency of people’s interests signify the era of people’s livelihood and democracy has arrived and also give rise to social regional contradictions. Chance is high that these social contradictions will escalate into social conflicts and cause large-scale group events, if they are not dealt effectively, properly and timely. Group events caused by social structure transformation and economic interests adjustment are typical during the transition period. Lack of awareness and judgment of such events, some local governments do not deal with them properly, which affects the society badly. The paper makes a theoretical analysis of7.19group events in Menglian, Yunnan, through the perspective of Huntington’s Theory of Political Stability, and explores strategies to prevent and dispose of group events under the perspective of Political Stability.The introductory covers the background of topic choosing, research roots, purposes and meaning, sorts out current research status home and abroad, illustrates the basic research ideas and contents, and lists out the research approaches used in writing the paper. The second part expounds Huntington’s Theory of Political Stability concisely. The third part describes the conditions of social and economic development in Menglian, Yunnan before7.19group events and gives a macro narration about interests’ conflict between rubber farmers and enterprises during that event. The fourth part analyzes the Menglian events with Huntington’s Theory of Political Stability. The fifth part explores the measures to prevent and deal with the similar group events through the angle of Political Stability again, and lessons we can learn from them, and concludes the whole paper.
