With the top-down model of information dissemination,traditional media, such as television,radio, newspapers, whose audience get passive acceptance by mass media layers of review, havethe higher threshold and low public participation.New media age provide the Internet technologyplatform where the people use mobile phones, computers and other devices to access.The site,forum, blog, QQ, micro letters and other popular applications are used for the informationreleased, forward and comment anytime and anywhere.Everyone not only a audience but also acommunicator.Network is a new era of major media information dissemination platform, and thisplatform is a double edged sword.On the one hand the dissemination of information is beyondthe limits of time and space, and public can fully express and exchange views. On the other handdue to the virtual platform and emotional, a variety of negative information and rumors are fullof them.So the new media age, the public crisis management is faced with both opportunities andchallenges.The purpose of this study is to address how to grasp the characteristics of the Internetand avoid disadvantages.To enhance the image of the government and maintain social harmonyand stability,Public crisis management from monitoring, early warning,disposal to summary andleading the network to create a rational and fair public opinion must be well done.Article includes the following elements:Part I: Analysis of the research background, purpose and meaning by summarizing thecurrent research.The research methods are proposed.Part II: The main concept and basic theory overview. This chapter do a detailed overview ofthe new media age, the theory of public crisis management and new media age crisis public law.Part III: Opportunities and challenges of public crisis management in the new mediaage.The opportunities are discovering crisis, promoting information disclosure andsupervision of the the public. The challenge of public crisis management in the new media age isfrom five areas as follows,dominance of traditional media, authenticity, opinion-oriented, thecredibility of the government,timeliness of the crisis management.Part IV: New Media era of public crisis management problems. The main outstanding issueis reflected in the weak monitoring and early warnings, lag processing and feedback, andinadequate summary of the public crisis.Part V: The new era of public media crisis case study with Shandong high-pressure pumpsewage event.Firstly,the formation process of the event is analyzed.Secondly,it restore the event’s fact.In the end,it summarized treatment of the event.Part VI: The new media age public crisis management strategy. This chapter do a researchon the issues of monitoring and early warning,effective disposal,aftermath summarizing.
