With the informational requirements of society gradually increasing, the Embedded Technology obtains broader space for development. The development of Embedded Technology promotes the application of smart mobile devices in all aspects of society. Because of its rich function, easy using, large memory capacity and superior support for various platforms, personal digital assistant will be widely used in daily life and a variety of fields.Remote Automatic Meter Reading is a new technology of monitoring and managing networked meters, with the computer Web service, network communication and embedded development. At present, Remote Automatic Meter Reading has been applied in life and work. Because of complex functional requirements and diverse technology implementation, there are still many aspects need to be improved. For example, whether the installation of devices is easy, whether the maintenance of system is convenient, whether the network communication is safe and stable, those must be considered. As the Remote Automatic Meter Reading applied in daily life, the network system uses PDA which realizes the mobile work, in addition to the traditional three layer structure.In the background of Networked Meter Reading System, this thesis presents the design and development of the mobile maintenance device. It's necessary to develop the mobile maintenance device, in order to satisfying the fine communication between various devices in mobile operation, the real-time monitoring of gas meters in emergency and the excellent maintenance of hardware. Its functions mainly contain management of operation, real-time reporting, installation and maintenance of device. As a kind of practical application of personal digital assistant, the mobile maintenance device will improve the flexibility and the convenience of the whole system, and provide better service for clients.In the thesis, the technology of development of PDA is in-depth studied. Firstly, it analyses the development environment of system. Through the comparison of Linux and Window CE, Window CE is selected as the operation system of PDA, and the feature of development in Window CE is discussed. Then a kind of development model is proposed and its architecture is explicitly analyzed. Finally according to the actual functional requirements of the whole system, the mobile maintenance device is developed based on the NLS-PT980 using.NET Compact Framework.The design can meet the main functional requirements of the Mobile Maintenance Device. Because of the constraint of hardware factor, it can't realize the functions of the GPS Location, image scanning and so on. Functions are derived from demand. With the popularization of the networked meter system and increase of client demand, the functions of mobile device will be expanded, and the whole system will be more practicable.
