Currently, traffic information management is becoming an urgent problem which should be solved by the traffic department, because the number of vehicle is increasing day by day with the rapid economic development in our country. Therefore, establishing the intelligent traffic information system is a difficult task which should be accomplished in the near future. RFID technology can be applied into the traffic management system, which has the advantage over long-distance recognition, rapid reading speed, and broad-range application. RFID readers can read RFID electronic tags adhered to the vehicle to collect traffic information effectively.Embedded traffic information management terminal based on RFID technology is established in this paper. Primary function of this terminal includes three parts: periodically collecting the information of RFID electronic tags to get traffic information; gathering image to get traffic image; identifying the owners of cars using the fingerprint model.First, S3C2410A embedded hardware platform as the running platform of the terminal is designed and completed. The hardware platform provides these resources including RS232 interface, Ethernet interface, USB interface, wireless LAN interface and so no. It connects RFID reader and fingerprint model through RS232 interface respectively, and connects camera through USB interface.Second, a system bootstrap loader—Bootloader is completed. Bootloader is realized through transplanting U-boot-1.1.2. The image of Linux operating system kernel and the RAMDISK file system are loaded into the SDRAM of hardware platform using the tftp protocol. The version of linux-2.4.18-rmk7-pxal-mz5 is chosen as the operation system, which is suitable for the S3C2410A processor.Third, server software is designed and completed in order to validate the function of the terminal. The terminal is the client. The communication mode between server and client is C/S mode. In accordance with the demand of traffic information management, client software and server software are programmed respectively. Client software includes three independent parts: RFID reader periodically reads the information of RFID electronic tags which will be immediately transferred through network; USB camera gathers and transfers the image frames. Fingerprint module gathers and identifies fingerprint of the owners of cars. Server software is programmed with multithread technology: it is used to receive and show image frame; it is used to receive and store the information of RFID electronic tags; vehicle information of the database can be query in accordance with date.Finally, the paper gives the test data and experimental results under the specific environment of laboratory. In the summary of system design, analysis about the lack of the design and the future work are given. This design has theoretical and practical value.
