With the practice of reforming and opening policy and the sustainable development of economy in China, hotel industry has been stepping into a brand new developing era and become one of the fastest-developed industries in national economy. Moreover, with peoples living standard improved, consumption concept undated, and relative regulations on holidays published, Chinese hotel industry is gaining more consumption market.However, due to Chinese traditional culture, outdated systems and concepts, and limitation of technology, many problems, such as rigid managerial system, disordered market, dull competitive strategy, blind market targeting, and identical hotel product, have appeared during the process of hotel industry development. Such problems will make Chinese hotel industry lose various chances and put it great trouble. Meanwhile, after being a member of WTO, Chinese hotel industry is confronted with more severe international competition, for more and more hotel corporations with world famous brand will fight for the market in China. In order to win a place in such acute international competition, Chinese hotel industry needs a managerial theory as its developing guidance which is rooted in Chinese thinking and doing patterns and geared to the needs of global culture space.Chinese traditional culture and managerial concept are positive in the one, and negative in the other. Chinese traditional culture is closely connected with modern hotel management, so some of it must be taken as a necessary part of Chinese-characteristic modern enterprise regulations and managerial patterns. Namely, Chinese hotel industry should not only learn from the advantages of western systematic management and adopt organizational and scientific managing patterns, but also absorb the essence of Chinese traditional culture and managerial concept to push its further development.The dissertation tempts to find out the conjunction between modern managementand traditional culture by observing Chinese traditional culture. According to the demands of hotel industry development in new era, by employing the theory of competition and analyzing the present situation of hotel industry development, the paper also tries to probe into the problems existing in the process of Chinese hotel industry's competition and development, and accordingly offer feasible strategies and resolutions: to enforce macro and micro control; to renovate; to brandize and groupify operationally; to train qualified professional manager team; to create excellent enterprise culrure,etc. The paper is written for the purpose to improve Chinese hotel industry's competitive capability and is written as a basic step for further study on the sustainable development of Chinese hotel industry.
