Chinese steel productivity is increasing rapidly along with the global economy resuming and China's joining into WTO. So the demand of import iron ore rises up in the same speed. The transportation of the ore is such a great and complicated systems that it relates to big amount of transport expense. We have to deliver the goods to the final destination through ocean shipping, railway or other ways. In the logistic point of view, we should optimize the delivery system to minimize the total coast.Zhanjiang Port is in Lei Zhou Peninsula, the southern end of Chinese Mainland. It is a natural deep-water port, with the shortest voyage from Chinese Mainland to Southeast Asia, Africa, Europe and other districts. Now it already becomes the main passage of the goods for South and Southwest China, and the South China's biggest port for iron ore import. In the future years, surely Zhanjiang Port will still play an import part in the iron ore transportation, and develop itself into a one main port in China. In the paper, the writer designed a model for optimizing the cost of the iron-ore transportation system through one year's working experience in Zhanjiang Port, and then advanced the measures for minimizing the cost based on the port's situation.
