In the 20th century, human being created "automobile culture". Automobile, depending on its peculiar functions, becomes a necessity and increasingly popular as new transportation tool, improving people' life and promoting economical and technical development. The development of auto industry has promoted the growing and development of related industries, and becomes the supporting industry for the development of the national scientific and social economy. The appropriate modes of industrial development are decisive to the industrial developing levels of a country. The industrial developing modes vary at the different phases in different countries or regions. After China entering WTO, China auto industry has been facing enormous opportunities as well as threats. Picking up the developing modes for auto industry has been greatly concerned by people. Therefore, the study of the developing mode of our country's auto industry is of high theoretical value and is of great value in its wide application.The thesis discussed the developing modes based on the theory of competitive advantage and comparative advantage, with the China's auto industry as the objects. It consists of seven parts: in the first part, it introduced the research background of the developing mode of auto industry, and generally stated the existing state of researches conducted by the foreign researchers, thus built the framework of the thesis. In the second part, it proposed the developing mode theory of the auto industry with the employment of the theory of competitive advantage and comparative advantage. Moreover, it illustrated the concepts related to the developing modes of auto industry. In the third part, It comparatively studied the developing modes of auto industry in main countries and regions of the world. It hold the view that the free developing moderepresented by the United States, the independent developing mode represented by Japan and Korea, the completely open developing mode represented by Brazil differ on the governmental functions, developing routes and goals and so on. In the fourth part, since SWOT analysis is necessary for the establishment of auto industry developing mode suited to our country, it illustrated the advantages and disadvantages, opportunities and threats of our country's auto industry development. In the fifth part, it proposed that we should build the competitive models for big countries based on the dominantly open mode of our national auto industry. Then it illustrated the goal and content of the new model, and the reason for establishing the new model. In the sixth part, it is mainly about the suggestions on the application of the new mode. The last part concluded with the research work of the thesis and predictions on the later research work.
