As a new type of tourism, since its appearance, rural tourism has been prevailing all over the world and getting more attention in our China with some delightful research outcomes. Among them, abundant research outcomes are inspiring achieved in the domains of its theory approach and practical activities with the sustainable development of rural tourism as the core aspects. Yet, some inattentive aspects still waits to be further studied. From a perspective not widely concerned by the academic circle and industry professionals, based on the relationship attributes betweenthe two main benefit parts of hosts and guests-the local residentsand tourists, this paper explores the interaction mode and characteristics between them, analyzes the main factors influencing their relationship, further studies the levels of the influenced objects of the interaction between the local residents and tourists, and finally puts forwards some constructive suggestions and management measures on how to improve the relationship between hosts and guests and on how to eliminate the negatives impacts. In the process of the theoretical analyses, taking Phoenix county of Hunan province as a typical example, this paper makes some relative positive analyses to interpret and demonstrate such a fact: The final aim for developing rural tourism is to seek for the harmony and optimization of the economical efficiency, environmental efficiency and social efficiency in both the tourism industry and the rural region. The coregroundwork to reach this aim is to reach the balance and harmony of the related benefit parts. The destination development of rural tourism must give prominence to the core idea of "base on people" principle. It is inconsiderate and unfavorable to the sustainable development of tourism to unilaterally emphasize the benefit of a certain side of the related benefit group. The interaction of hosts and guests in rural tourism is unavoidable and can not be neglected. It's unimaginable and impossible to lose the support of both the tourists and the local residents in developing tourism. This paper shows that only when the relationship between hosts and guests is harmonized, the negative impacts of their interaction are eliminated and the strategic idea of "base on people" principle is fully represented, can rural tourism be developed more harmoniously. When planning and designing the rural tourism, it's also necessary to integratively consider the needs and benefits of both the tourists and local residents. The host region's management of the local government and the marketing strategies of the tour operators are also necessary to be adjusted appropriately. This is one of the chief problems to be solved in rural tourism development at present.
