This thesis is the first of it king to undertake such a huge project studies to compare the world most two populous nations in the history of reservoir resettlement and rehabilitation project. In the Xiaolangdi and the Sardar Sarovar planning, implementation and design of reservoir-impacted resettlers' resettlement is the foundation and an important basis for reservoir resettlement as well as rehabilitation. As it is an important part of design of a hydropower project, to solve the problems of floods control, electricity supply and water supply respectively for both domestic and industrial use. In the section introducing the implementation cases, the whole implementation process is expounded, including the planning of new villages, compensation, construction of infrastructure facilities, design and construction of house, arrangements for production and livelihood, and acceptance. A comparison is also made between the income of resettlers following move and the income of host population. The two Governments (Chinese& India) and the trade authority of hydropower sectors have paid more attention to see that administration process is well done. In these aspects such as administration system of reservoir-induced resettlement, key basic laws and regulations, work contents in various stages of planning and designing of reservoir-induced resettlement and main practical experience, expounds the characteristics of planning and designing of reservoir-induced resettlement in China and India, as well as monographic research on implementation of the resettlement policies and on the social and economic development. It advances views on the principles for the current reservoir-induced resettlers' resettlement and the policy guidance for its future development.
