The Study On Spatial Scale And Regional Characteristics Of Metropolitan Region In China

Metropolitan Region is a latest patterns of modern metropolis regional spatialorganization in Europe and the United States, Japan and other developed countries. Thedevelopment progress of Metropolitan Region has caused by the comprehensivemulti-factors, such as urban industries gather, transport development, urbanized progressand integration of urban. Nowadays, there are many typical big Metropolitan Regions inthe world, such as Tokyo Metropolitan Region, Kyoto-Osaka-Kobe Metropolitan Region,Nagoya Great Metropolitan Region, Greater London and the New York metroplics.At present, with China's economic level has increased rapidly, in many developedmetropolitan areas, such as Beijing, Shanghai, Shenyang, Guangzhou, the MetropolitanRegion's embryo has basically taken shaped. Metropolitan Region's development strategyis useful for promoting integration between urban and rural and guiding concentrations ofindustry and population. It also have a strategic significance in guiding regionalfrastructure construction. How to establish reasonable model based on the real situation inChina has become a focus for the current research of Metroplitan Region. This article aimsto slove these issues.This paper is composed of three parts:The first part is about the basic theories. In order to avoid confusion between theconcept of Metroplitan Region and others related concepts, to redefined it afterunderstanding the development process of developed countries, analyzing MetroplitanRegion's content is necessary. To summed up Metropoltian Region basic features afterstudying the Metroplitan Region development conditions.The second Part aims at studying of Metropoltian Region spatial scales and regionalcharacteristics.First this paper proposed three different spatial scales of MetropoltianRegion, big Metropoltian Region, regional Metropoltian Region and local MetropoltianRegion, which based on the Basic theories of Metropoltian Region. Then the authordescribed not only the external Metropoltian Region patterns in space but also the internalstructures characteristics of Metropoltian Region.The third part made a assumption to re-establish the spatial pattern of MetropoltianRegion. The suppose to re-establish the urban system of China was based on the threespatial scales of Metropoltian Region. This paper proposed the establishment of four bigMetropoltian Regions in China, meanwhile, intruduced the development situation ofregional Metropoltian Region and local Metropoltian Region in China.
