This paper gives a detailed introduction to the appraising method of Repeatability andReproducibility (R&R) in Variables Measurement System. Based on the analysis ofproducer's and customer's risk, and the parameter's confidence interval estimation, the selection and decision of sample size, operator number, part number and repeatedround number have also been addressed. Furthermore, this paper discusses the testmethod to the model's fitness, hence makes the appraising method more systematic, effective and efficient. The following has been studied in this paper:(1) Elements of measurement system. Statistical properties, namely, Repeatabilityand Reproducibility, has been analyzed, and their effect on the process controlas well.(2) On the basis of R&R analysis and comparison to the classical MeasurementSystem, the appraising methods to the non-classical system have also beendiscussed.(3) Confidence interval estimation for some relevant statistics in R&R study hasbeen made, and on the ground of it, this paper studies the operator number, sample number and repeated round number. Combining the analysis to the twotypes of errors, the selection of sample size is decided. Then, the author bringsforward a complete program to the measurement R&R analysis.(4) In view of the assumptions of normal distribution, equal variance, andindependence, the residual chart is applied and used to test the model's fitness. In the end, the author puts the above study into the practice of Company A, and yieldsgood results.
