In recent years, the dramatic development of information technology facilitated the data collection in an enterprise. It is an important approach for promoting enterprise competitiveness based big data to make a strategic decision. The product and business data should be valid and quality. They are the fundamental characteristics of data and ensure the right decision-making. Measurement system analysis studied in this paper is intended to appraise the data validity and quality. This paper reviews the typical methods for analyzing measurement system repeatability and reproducibility. I summarize the research results at present both in domestic and overseas, analyze the inadequacy of these researches and demonstrate the method and work flow of Gauge Repeatability and Reproducibility(GR&R) study based on Source of Variation(SOV) analysis. The GR&R study based on SOV analysis is applied to the situation where the measurement system variation have more than two factors and involve both nested and crossed effects. It is used to separate variation within part from gauge repeatability or reproducibility and also used to analyze unbalanced measurement data.I elaborate the method and work flow of GR&R study with SOV analysis by a real case in my company. The measurement system in this case involves both nested and crossed effects on variation. The variation within part is mixed in the reproducibility. I apply SOV analysis method to come out the true value of the capability of the measurement system and find it is not acceptable, therefore improve the measurement system to meet the requirement. This case study identifies the availability and necessity of applying SOV method.
