Along with the deep development of economic globalization, enterprises are facing more and more intense competition domestically and internationally and they have begun to consider the financial management from the strategetic level. Correspondingly, the duty that senior finance managers take is also greatly changing which has a higher demand about the competence than before.Based on the above situation, senior finance managers working in the enterprises in China are also from being a general accountant in the traditional system to a chief financial officer (CFO) under the new situation. The thesis aims to study the competence model of CFO in the listed companies under the new situation and provide more scientific evidence for recruiting and selecting, performance appraisal, training and hunting successor of the CFO and furthermore help the enterprise strengthen its competition power in the market In order to increase the efficiency of research results, the writer chose some good listed enterprises engaged in manufacturing, finance, high technology, service and so on from Beijing and Shandong as the pilots. The research adopts the method integrating theory and practice. Competence inventories of CFOs are made through textbook analysis and behavioural interview. Questionnaires are distributed to CFOs in ten listed companies such as Haier in Qingdao, Qingdao Beer, Life Assurance Stock Company. Through some statistics, the competence structure of CFOs in listed companied under the new situation is finalized and they are business competence, influential power, sense of responsibility, strategy plan, analysis and concept thinking, self-motivation, communicative ability, team leadership and management. There are similar research results with others through analysis in strategy plan, analysis and concept thinking, communicative ability and team leadership and management This indicates that some listed companies have realized that the above-mentioned abilities are indeed very important for the CFO who wants to make great achievements and the results based on my illustrations basically accord with the theoretical field. However, my research results in the influential power, sense of responsibility and self-motivation are different from others'. These three elements are concluded from the deep interview with people most of whom are working instate-owned enterprises in which human relationship and personal authority are very important, so CFO need to have strong influential power if he wants to carry out his work very well. Otherwise, his decisions cannot win recognition and support from others. Lack of responsibility is not surprising under the situation filled with finance scandals home and abroad. CFO's work mainly depends on their conscience. If he has no strong sense of responsibility, spirit of devotion and good profession ethics, CFO will not be qualified for this job. In addition to these, self-motivation, also called intrinsic force or enterprise, is also indispensable for CFO to make great achievements. CFOs with this competence will constantly challenge themselves and set higher goals and not confine themselves to traditional position requirements, taking advantage of their rights and opportunity to contribute good plans and ideas for the strategy plan and long-term development of the enterprises.
