A Research On Cross-Functional Integrations Of Electro-mechanical Product Development And Their Impacts On Development Cycle Time

Cross-functional integrations on product development refer to: to improve thedevelopment performance (improve development quality, shorten development cycletime and lower development cost), enterprises' product development teamcooperates and communicates with internal correlative functional department andexternal correlative enterprises or organizations. During the complete procedure ofproduct development, they always exist, even after products have been launched andsold. Their state will directly affect the product development cycle time, efficiencyand quality.Through studying past paper, monograph and interviewing lots of domesticelectro-mechanic enterprises profoundly, this paper puts forward the composingfactors of cross-functional integration variables of the product developmentmatching domestic electro-mechanic enterprises. Based on this, the paper madequestionnaire investigation on cross-functional integrations and development cycletime of domestic electro-mechanic enterprises. There were 192 questionnairesdistributed with 137 received and 101 ones were valid. Questionnaire contents coverall kinds of elements of six kinds of cross-functional integrations, developmentcycle time and basic status of enterprises and their development teams. There are tenaspects including 29 questions investigated.Through descriptive statistics and reliability analysis, this paper measures thecurrent state of cross-functional integrations of product development of domesticelectro-mechanic enterprises and sorts them by their means. Moreover, thedifferences between the cross-functional integration status of domesticelectro-mechanic industry and that of foreign multi-industries are also analyzed.Through correlation and regression analysis(including R square, F and T test), thispaper find variable that has the largest impacts on development cycle time and sortssix forms cross-functional integration variables by the impact level on developmentcycle time. Based on these results, this paper further makes comparison between theresearch results of domestic electro-mechanic industry and that of foreignmulti-industries, explores the similarities, differences and their reasons, gives adviceto improve the cross-functional integration of domestic electro-mechanic enterprises.Finally, the innovation and drawback of this research results are summarized and theresearch direction is indicated.
