GIS-based Location Analysis Of Bank ATMs

Bank automatic machine (ATM), an easily-operated facility for modern banking, can provide banking service regardless of time and improve bank's transaction efficiency. Undoubtedly, ATM is essential for commercial banking. Therefore, high-quality ATM site selection can not only attract customer, but also improve bank's market competitiveness. However, because of the application of ATM is just started in China, there is lack the experience of selecting ATM location as well as the web plan of ATM service. According to this situation, ATM location research is conducted based on GIS. Relations of ATM and location factors are analyzed quantitatively. We expect the paper is able to provide the experience for evaluation, choice and plan of ATM location.ATM location is an important commercial decision-making process. There are many factors that affect ATM location and there are also many selected methods which have their usage limitation, merits and demerits. This paper generalizes the theories and methods of public service establishment location site and compares their applicability, technological characters, merits and demerits. GIS can concentrate the factors that affect establishment site. The location decision model based on spatial analysis could be an effective approach to realize the site of ATM. The paper which provides the method of ATM location system is based on the domestic and foreign theories about ATM site. This paper particularizes a commercial bank of Zhengzhou city. The paper explains these methods in four aspects: the first is looking for the factors that affect the ATM site through analyzing some respective ATM locations. The second is managing all the data by GIS that is involved in the whole research area. The third is analyzing the relationship between ATM trade and location through GIS spatial analysis and mathematic statistic. The forth is summarizing the law of ATM location through analyzing and explaining the result received in this paper.By investigating the influencing factors of ATM location through a survey of ATM example, the research is analyzed by principal component analysis(PCA) and provide the following influencing factors with respect to ATM location: population density nearby, number of small businesses, public service facilities, institutes of higher learning, traffic convenience and distribution of competing bank branches.
