As a symbol of human civilization, ancient architectural building has great scientific, cultural and artistic value. Thus, how to carry out the ancient architecture protection, restoration and rehabilitation, how to make the art of history from generation to generationhas become a big problem need to be solved in recent times. This requires us must constantlyapply advanced technology and methods to ancient architecture industry to conduct detailedsurveying and mapping of ancient buildings and establish a thorough database and3Dvisualization of ancient buildings so that to achieve digitization and modernization of ancientarchitecture.3D laser scanning technology is a high advanced international technology developed inrecent years. It is another epoch-making technological innovation and revolution after theGPS in the surveying and mapping field. The3D laser scanning technology is a measurementthat can quickly obtain three-dimensional coordinates of the object’s surface without contactand then follow through the relevant data processing software and modeling software toconstruct a three-dimensional solid model, which also known as “Virtual Replication”. Tocompared with the traditional measurement, the3D laser scanning technology has acharacteristic of high-speed, high-precision, automation, digitalization, non-contactmeasuring, which made it has a unparalleled advantages in the ancient architecturemeasurement industry, made the way of the ancient buildings measurement data acquisitionfrom the traditional single-point shift to massive acquisition model, which effectivelypromoted the development of ancient buildings surveying and mapping technologies. This paper first introduced the three-dimensional laser scanning technology, including itsbasic system structure, working principles and general operating procedures, and then referedto the basic knowledge of ancient architecture and its measurement technology, finally, combined with the basic knowledge of ancient buildings and the three-dimensional laserscanning introduced above, conducted a basic processing and three-dimensional modeling based on the original data which has been obtained. The main contents are as follows:1. Doing basic pretreatment to the original data acquired by the three-dimensional laserscanning with the Cyclone software, achieved data registration from different viewpoints, andthen analyzed the difference of the four different registration respectively based on target, control point, point cloud and the mixture.2. Have analyzed the causes of producing noise and the different methods for processingdifferent types of cloud-point noise based on in full consideration of point cloud datadistribution, and then made the de-noising and filtering to the point cloud.3. After the pretreatment of the registration, point cloud merging and point cloudde-noising, a three-dimensional modeling of the ancient buildings has completed, Then, madetextures to the original three-dimensional modeling and we drawn out of the various views ofthe ancient buildings.4. Have a preliminary discussion and research on the establishment of the database ofancient buildings.
