Flying shear is widely used in the continuous strip steel processing lines as a keyequipment. Normally it is arranged at the terminal part of the whole lines, mainly used todivid the stip steel, cut waste plate or cut the sampling plate. Flying shear is usuallycomposed of cutting mechanism, the knife gap adjusting mechanism, empty cuttingmechanism, constant speed mechanism and drive mechanism etc. Because the rocking flyshear’s knives run as one plane motion, it can get the good cutting quality.This paper is mainly based on the rocking fly shear’s design of the Baosteel2030electro galvanized line. First of all, it analyses the structure of the IHI flying shear and therocking fly shear, build the kinematics mathematical model of the rocking fly shear, thenanalyses the movement track and velocity of the flying shear with the analytical method.Secondly, it calculates the key technical parameters such as the cutting force and the motor.At last, using the3D Solidworks software, we build the solid model of the flying shear,analyses the kinematics of the flying shear by the Motion plug-in of the Solidworkssoftware, and the analysis results is same as the results by the analytical method. Thispaper analyse the stress of the crankshaft and the shear frame by the finite elementanalysis method, and improve the flying shear design.The rocking fly shear is derived from the IHI flying shear, has the advantage ofsimple structure. Using this kind of flying shear can reduce the investment cost, so it iswidely used in the strip steel processing lines. The rocking fly shear we designed has beensuccessfully used in the May of2009, it met the function requirement of the steelprocessing line. Through the theoretical study of the flying shear and combining with theengineering practice, we can design more excellent products to improve marketcompetitiveness and to better meet the requirement of the customers.
